Finally...

It took awhile but I finally decided on a name for a new blog to commemorate our change of life venue after moving from our home state of Wisconsin to Connecticut six months ago.

Tonight as I type this we are "hunkering" down as we prepare for an epic storm in New England. Blizzard Colbie is supposed to give us anywhere from 24-36 inches of snow. I am doubtful of these numbers. The heaviest and worst parts are supposed to begin after midnight. 4-5 inches an hour they are saying. We have a small generator in case the power goes out. Neighbors with a wood stove if we want more warmth. Plenty of peanut butter, jelly and bread as well as junk food. What better excuse for junk food than a blizzard and possible "snowed in status". In Connecticut they get a little excited about pending snow. Grocery shelves are bare, shovels, generators, batteries, and snow blowers are sold out. A state of emergency was issued earlier today for the state and our town. The girls were dismissed from school early. In fact they already decided that at 6am this morning. No school tomorrow, of course.

I could probably write for hours since I haven't written anything in months, almost a year. My only excuse for that is life. Life, life and more life plus three kids. This blog will be a mixture of kid updates and funnies as well as posts about my runs through New England and new races we find to enjoy. The first big New England race that I enjoyed besides a half marathon in Massachusetts (by myself - that was cool) is running in the NYC marathon on November 2, 2014. Ethan and I entered the lottery a year ago and back in March I was lucky enough to find out my name was chosen. In March we still had no idea where our life after Green Bay would take us with the closure of Ethan's work place, the Kewaunee Power Station. In May we finally learned that our new adventure would take us 1,100 miles east to East Lyme, Connecticut along the Long Island Sound. Pretty, adventurous, so many opportunities, and different.

The New York City Marathon was simply amazing! I enjoyed every mile of it and smiled that entire way. I even stopped and took a few pictures. I never do that. I went into it with a different attitude than most because of a hamstring issue that popped up 3 weeks before the race. I needed to run conservative in order to not injure my leg any further. A good friend and forming running partner told me to really "enjoy the race", "embrace it". I did just that. I wore my WI shirt and headband and had so many cheers, recognition along the way of Wisconsin and the Badgers. I even saw someone wearing a Cheesehead in Brooklyn, plus a volunteer much later in the race wearing a Bucky hat. Volunteers and spectators were amazing in this run. The race started with extreme windy conditions atop the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. In fact I had a garbage bag fly into my face and blind me for 30 seconds or so. My time wasn't what I hoped when my training started but I couldn't have asked for a more amazing experience and enjoyable run. The smile on my face after tells it all.

My training runs leading up to New York in my new state of Connecticut were adventurous and eye opening. I wish I would have written more about them at the time but will make it a point to do so in the future.

There is so much more to write but for tonight I will end here. There is more to come. Many updates on the girls. Oh, they are getting big. Too big. I want to freeze time!
